Bulk Adhesives: Solvent Based and Water Based

Solvent Based – Flammable/Non-flammable

For many years the only available adhesives were manufactured with solvents – both flammable and non-flammable.
These solvents were necessary to dissolve the rubbers/resins used to make them “stick”.
Though these solvents are still used today, there are regions in this country that either do not allow the use of these adhesives or have air quality rules that limit their usage.

Water Based

Water based adhesives offer the best of both worlds – sort of.  They are safe, high in solids and can be sprayed, brushed or roller applied.  However, they are EXPENSIVE.
Though their transfer efficiency is low, they are still an excellent alternative to solvent based products.
