New SCAQMD Rule 1168 regarding Top and Trim Adhesives

January 8, 2019 By Alejandro Medina

We, at Adhesives Solutions want to keep updated all of our Top and Trim Adhesive users and resellers about the new regulations for Top and Trim Adhesives effective January 1st 2019.

Rule 1168 is the rule governing the sale and usage of Adhesives and Sealants in the South Coast Air Quality District; you can download a copy through this link
https://www.arb.ca.gov/drdb/sc/curhtml/r1168.pdf

RULE 1168. ADHESIVE AND SEALANT APPLICATIONS

Purpose and Applicability:
The purpose of this rule is to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), toxic air contaminants and stratospheric ozone-depleting compounds from the application of adhesives, adhesive primers, sealants and sealant primers.
This rule applies to any person who uses, sells, stores, supplies, distributes, offers for sale, or manufactures for sale any adhesives, adhesive primers, sealants, or sealant primers, unless otherwise specifically exempted by this rule.

Recommended Spray Guns for Adhesives.

June 1, 2018 By Alejandro Medina

Recommended Spray Guns for Adhesives.

Throughout the many visits we make to different manufacturers here in California we’ve learned that the right choice of equipment can increase both the yield of adhesive and its overall performance. A good, high quality spray gun will help control the amount of glue dispensed, the width of the spray pattern and the air pressure recommended to avoid over spray and improve “open working time” to achieve the perfect bond between substrates every time.

Most spray guns are serviceable; meaning that the user will be able to perform cleaning activities as needed to keep the spray gun working as expected. Sometimes over cleaning might result in wear or break of the inner seals of the spray guns. Repair kits often include o rings and seals to bring back the equipment to “as new” condition.[Read More]

“Laminating Adhesives for Every Substrate”

Bonded substrates are used in automotive, furniture, mattress, packaging and myriad other industries.
We offer SPECTRUM Foam Stick II, a water base product that can be used as either a single part or 2-part adhesive for foam fabrication and SPECTRUM 6043 Water Base Contact Laminating Adhesive for bonding metal, wood and many other substrates. Also, for those wanting a fast set, long open time, solvent based product, we offer TECHNO 122, 155, 440 and 159 HVP (non-flammable) adhesives and Tensorbond C302 (non-flammable) and C307 CA Compliant Contact Adhesive.

The newest additions to our offering are a couple of products we’ve been selling for a few years – 72050 ultra-high performance foam laminating adhesive and LAM 300.

72050 is an ultra-high performance water based product for those applying adhesive through heated, roll-coat equipment to bond a variety of substrates (foam, scrim, vinyl, etc.).

Spectrum Foam Stick II Water Base Adhesive Foam Cement

September 1, 2017 By Alejandro Medina

Throughout several visits made to different foam manufacturers in Southern California, we have found some establishments are required to use only water based adhesives on their fabrication process. Fire regulations, insurance policies or City Permits play a role in the decision making when using solvents vs non solvents, not only for adhesives, but for cleaners, primers, paints etc.

Spectrum Foam Stick II is a new generation of modified synthetic latex designed to replace solvent based adhesives in spray applications for many foam-bonding constructions. Foam Stick II provides good green strength within 5-10 seconds after application. This product will give foam-tearing bonds with 10-20 minutes. Foam Stick II will bond foam to itself, wood, metals and plastic materials.

Tensorgrip P307 and Tensorgrip P313 (Air Assisted Application)

February 16, 2017 By Alejandro Medina

Tensorgrip P307 and P313 adhesives although very similar, have different attributes which are important to know so the user can get the most out of them.

Tensorgrip P307 is a “do it all” CA compliant adhesive with a long open working time and high heat resistance, since it’s pressurized, dispensing is easy and simple. There is hardly any overspray which translates to  close to 90% of the glue landing on the substrates. User can easily switch nozzle tips between 40º, 65° and 95° spraying tip angles.[Read More]

Are Canisters More Effective?

November 23, 2016 By Steve Bayliff

canister-smallDid you know, canisters are the most economical way to apply adhesives?

Their transfer efficiency (how much adhesive actually goes on the surface) is close to 95%.  That’s right.  Almost all the adhesive you have purchased goes on the substrates you’re trying to bond.

Let’s compare that 95% to “other” methods of application.

Rolling or brushing

Rolling or brushing on adhesive is a sure way to get the surface 100% covered.  BUT, typically you’re putting down WAY too much.

Spraying

Spraying has been, for years, the most economical method of application.  BUT, a lot is lost into the atmosphere as air is used to atomize the adhesive.  Spraying solvent based adhesives offers about 75% transfer efficiency.  Spraying a water based product offers only about 25% transfer efficiency.

Canisters

Canisters are the most economical method  AND they are portable.  No outside air source is needed.
