Cold Weather and Tensorgrip Canister Adhesives

November 27, 2017 By Steve Bayliff

With winter upon us in a large portion of North America, cold temperatures can potentially change the physical properties of adhesives. Thus, it’s a good idea to pay closer attention to the signs associated with cooler temperatures that will impact canister adhesives like P307, P313, P329 and P302 performance.

Troubleshooting During Cold Weather

If the air temperature is below 60°F (15°C) watch for the following reactions when applying your adhesives:

  • Canister spits or the spray is sputtering.
  • Canisters supply an inconsistent spray pattern.

How To Keep All Sizes Of Adhesives At Appropriate Temperature

When you see this reaction, Tensor experts recommend taking these steps:

Large [22L] or smaller canisters:

Immerse the canister in warm water for about 15 minutes.  Remove and gently agitate to bring the glue back into solution.

Intermediate [108L] or larger canisters:

Remove canisters from unheated concrete floors into an area where the air temperature is above 60°F (15°C) until they are at or above 60°F (15°C).  To agitate the canister, lay it on its side and roll back and forth gently.

Prevent it!  Use a heated canister blanket to keep the container at a safe and reasonable temperature.  Store your canisters off concrete floors on a pallet racking or cart.
